ELSR SUTQ Updates to the Field

We hope this communication finds you safe and well. What a whirlwind of a school year this has been. The COVID-19 pandemic has definitely changed our lives in many ways and we sincerely appreciate the perseverance for continuing to provide high quality services during these difficult times. A special thank you to those programs that were able to remain open and continue to follow the SUTQ standards.

As we look forward to the 2021-2022 school year, we will work together to get everyone back on track, wherever you are in the process.

We have received several questions related to missed annual report deadlines, SUTQ rating status, renewal registrations and onsite visits. Responses to these questions vary depending on the program's category of circumstance. Our programs fell into four (4) main categories for the 2020-2021 school year. Many programs opened and closed at various times throughout the school year as COVID-19 numbers increased or decreased around the state. Those categories are:

  • 100% virtual – temporary closure in OCLQS
  • Temporary closure – did not provide preschool services at all or in a very specific capacity
  • Hybrid model – both in person and remotely
  • 100% in person

During the 2020-2021 school year programs operated under the pandemic standards as set forth by the Governor.  For the 2021-2022 school year we are planning to return to our normal operating standards and procedures. This return will begin in the Fall of 2021.

We understand that school closures may have made it impossible to collect documentation for certain standards. The 2021-2022 school year will focus on assessing where the program is in the SUTQ process and plans and action steps to get back on track. Your assigned ODE specialist will be in contact and provide specific guidance on what is needed. If you do not hear from your program specialist, you may assume no new documentation is needed at this time. If you have any questions, please send to [email protected].

Again, thank you for your perseverance and for all that you do on behalf of Ohio's youngest learners and their families.
