ODE Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities continues serving students

4/6/20

As Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities works to support schools and educators during the ordered school-building closure, the agency wants to make sure educators are aware of services still available for their students.

During the current ordered school-building closure and “Stay at Home” order, counselors are working virtually with students and families to continue offering employment services through the agency’s providers. Providers can help students explore careers, file for unemployment and even find jobs in current in-demand and essential job markets during this crisis. Many employers continue to have urgent hiring needs in the retail, supermarket, pharmacy and warehouse or distribution center industries.

Schools can contact their assigned Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities counselors or local offices to help connect students with employment services. Students can explore careers during the COVID-19 crisis by taking advantage of Pre-Employment Transition Services virtually.

Schools and families can stay up to date on the agency’s COVID-19 response and guidelines for services. Here is recent guidance for Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities providers. Please visit the Students 14+ webpage for more information about services available to students.
