New Director for State Support Team Region 11

Ugochi Akoi to assume leadership of SST11.

At the May 26th meeting of the ESC Governing Board, Ugochi Akoi was approved and hired as director of State Support Team Region 11 (SST11), effective August 1, 2021. In her role, Ugochi will direct the SST11’s delivery of services while also managing all of its staff.

In her current role as an SST11 consultant, Ugochi is responsible for supporting local public school districts and community schools’ personnel that are focused on improving the academic achievement of all student groups they serve. She serves as a systems coach and directly supports collaborative teams in their implementation of the Ohio Improvement Process and goal of sustainable improvement.

Ugochi serves as a board member of Inspire2Teach1, Inc., a nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure that vulnerable and at-risk student populations have access to critical information and resources that could increase their opportunities in the fields of education, the arts, finance, health and wellness. In addition, she is the President of the Alumni Chapter of the Central Ohio Parent Leadership Training Institute (COPTLI). COPTLI’s program is geared towards developing parents into leaders that would aid in improving children’s outcomes.

Ugochi earned her Bachelor's degree from Cornell University and her Master’s degree from Temple University. She also completed post graduate courses in continuing education at Otterbein University. She currently lives in Columbus with her husband and children.
