ODE - Department releases One Needs Assessment prototype 1/13/2020

The Ohio Department of Education has unveiled a prototype comprehensive needs assessment tool to replace the Decision Framework and other needs assessment tools. This new tool is designed to get all users accustomed to identifying all their needs in a single location within a standardized timeline. This first version of the tool assists in the design and development of a final One Needs Assessment component to be part of the Education Department’s System of Tiered E-Plans and Supports (ED STEPS).

This version of the tool is available now in the OH|ID Portal l. All schools and districts are encouraged to begin using the new tool, identifying individual needs and producing more focused continuous improvement plans. However, only districts and schools selected for the ED STEPS three-year planning pilot group are required to use the first version of the tool beginning this month for improvement plans for the 2020-2021 school year. Beginning January 2021, all schools and districts will be required to use the One Needs Assessment tool for plans submitted for the 2021-2022 school year and beyond.

Support and training resources can be accessed on the One Needs Assessment webpage. These resources include the following:

User’s manual;

Several state support teams will offer training sessions on the new tool. Find contact information for state support teams here.
