Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

Given the diversity of students across classrooms, teachers are challenged with ensuring that ALL students can access the content and demonstrate skill mastery and knowledge embedded in the Ohio Content Standards. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) provides a framework for the utilization of instructional strategies and resources by organizing them under three major principles:
  • Multiple Means of Representation
  • Multiple Means of Action and Expression
  • Multiple Means of Engagement
Although resources can be used to support all students, UDL also provides strategies and resources that are appropriate for students identified with very specific needs including students with disabilities, students identified as gifted, and English learners.
